I blossomed in Louisville, Kentucky, but like most things that grow strong, my story started in some complicated soil.

I grew up in Victory Park in Louisville's West End, raised by my grandmother and a community that helped fill in the space's life left open. I lost my mother when I was one year old, and my childhood came with circumstances that could have easily been written only as hardship. But when I look back now, I also see humor, imagination, resourcefulness, family and a little girl who learned very early how to find something worth laughing about, even when life wasn't particularly funny.

Those experiences planted a lot of seeds.

​

Today I am an Author, educator, and founder of Play On Words Inc., a Louisville based nonprofit created to transform how writing is experienced, particularly for communities whose stories and voices are too often underappreciated.

​

I’m a proud graduate of the University of Louisville, where I also had the honor of serving on the African American Alumni Council (2019–2020). I went on to earn my MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University. My professional journey has taken me through healthcare, business and higher education, including teaching healthcare administration as an adjunct professor. Each experience has added another layer to how I think about people, opportunity, leadership and community.

Creativity, however, has always found its way into whatever I do.

​

My first “bloom” in the literary world was my food blog, HappyEatingLouisville.com.  It gave me joy sharing my love for food and discovering hidden gems across my city. I became an entrepreneur, created products, published books and eventually began digging deeper into my own childhood stories. Those memories inspired The Mischievous Victories of Pricey, a collection rooted in the funny, complicated and wonderfully peculiar experiences of growing up in Victory Park.

I also have a deep love for natural hair—though my journey to embracing it wasn’t always easy. Growing healthy hair takes patience, persistence, and care. My own experience inspired me to create a small business for women facing similar challenges.

​

That passion became Satin Beanies—satin-lined beanies designed to protect and encourage healthy hair growth. They were affordable, stylish, and perfect for sleeping, lounging, or even tackling a rough hair day, all while keeping your hair protected from breakage and split ends. These have been discontinued.

​

I’ve learned that growth isn't always pretty. Sometimes it looks like thriving. Sometimes it looks like starting over. Sometimes it is simply discovering that something beautiful can come from a place other people overlooked.

​

I’m still growing, still writing, still creating and still reaching for the sun.

And most importantly, I’m making room for other people to grow beside me.
